From 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM it rained 2.25 inches.

At 11:00 AM the rain increased to fall at
a rate of 1.25 in. every two hours.
How many inches of rain landed on the ground by 5:00 PM?

A. 7 inches B. 9.75 inches C. 2.35 inches D. 6 inches E. 7.125 inches

In 4 first hours (from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM), level of water is 2.25 inches.

From 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM time interval is 6 hours.

From 11:00 AM level of increase of water is 1.25 inches every 2 hours.

2 hours - 1.25 inches
6 hours = (6x1.25)/2 = 3.75 inches

So, total level of water by from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM is 2.25 + 3.75 = 6 inches. Is that right ?
